Look up, look waaaay up….

These words from the opening of the 1960’s children’s TV show The Friendly Giant certainly came to mind the past couple of days as we spent time on the Pacific Marine Circle Route in southern Vancouver Island. The height and girth of these beautiful firs, spruce, and cedars has been very impressive. And we did not even see the largest ones. There was also a small one that caught our attention. It is living on a rock in Fairy Lake just north of Port Renfrew.

It was difficult to do them justice with my iphone camera, but here are a few pics.

Couldn’t even get their full height in my viewfinder.
The cross section round is from a Douglas Fir which had 1,227 growth rings when it was cut down in 1976. It dwarves Rick.
Impressive in its own way.
