As previously mentioned, we decided to follow the cliff top trail from the parking area to see the Benagil caves from above. The trail was a section of the inland Rota Vicentina trail. It was arid and rocky and definitely well travelled by those wishing to see the scenic coastal views and emerald-coloured water from above.
Much to my surprise, a white horse and rider rounded the bend in front of us, followed by two other riders. As we walked toward them, the rider of the white horse stopped and the horse began to prance on the spot. It was very impressive to see. After a few minutes of prancing, horse and rider continued along the trail.
